My visit to Stio Biao

Last August 27, 2010 we went to Stio Biao where monobo’s live there. It’s was a 16 km walk from barangay Milbuk. We  there to conduct a baseline survey.

We survey farmers about rice, corn production and other sources of income.

With three farmer’s Pasai Roy, Florante and Krang and my partner Esnaira.

We learned that they have difficulty because they are dependent on rain since there is no irrigation and lack of machinery equipment and drinking water. The land of Stio Biao is Upland http://www.photius.com/countries/philippines/society/philippines_society_upland_tribal_groups.html. They are also planting vegetables, nuts, and bananas sweet potato.

The Manobo’s go down to sell their products to buy rice. It’s difficult for them to go down because they walk in four ours.

Now they have rice planting and first time to they’re to harvest rice to their community. They’re happy and great to their place.

Last 2009 the Pasali Philippines Foundation gave the corn mill to help them.

“Youth Empowerment”

There is a great need for both the parents and the government to empower the youth. In response to the saying “youth are the leaders of tomorrow”, we need to understand that before the tomorrow, youth need someone to educate, direct and empower them today. We must provide them with a proper mind set in terms of economic and sociological framework in order to enable them to know the best way to manage the resources available to them for a better tomorrow.
